THE EMILEE CONNECTION

The Emilee Connection, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) whose mission is to support adults who suffer from anorexia and other eating disorders by harnessing the power of peer support, social connection, activities, educational events, inspiring speakers, and provide education and peer support for those who love them and for our community. Eating disorders are serious, life-threatening illnesses that are underrecognized, under-resourced, and are never a choice. Adults with eating disorders have unique needs and challenges. The Emilee Connection understands these psycho-social challenges and provides a safe haven of peer and community support that builds trust, aids in transitions, helps individuals reconnect with themselves, find purpose, and share frustrations and victories with a community who can see the individual through the disease, and who understand the challenges of being an adult and having an eating disorder.

Our Mission

The Emilee Connection, Inc. is a free, nonprofit organization that strives to enhance the lives and healing of adults who struggle with an eating disorder through peer support, education, and community connection. TEC also harnesses the power of peer support and community connection for family members of adults with eating disorders.

Our Core Values

To treat individuals who have eating disorders and those that support them with dignity, respect, and compassion and to provide compassionate resources, education, community, and peer support as they walk along the healing bridge to living their best life.

Our Vision

A world where there is no stigma around any illness and one where eating disorders do not exist!

WHY THIS RESOURCE IS NECESSARY

More than 30 million people in the United States suffer from an eating disorder, yet many feel like they’re all alone against the deadly disease. Eating disorders are diseases of disconnection, which is why it is crucial to have local resources readily available that provide essential support to those struggling. And they don’t discriminate, affecting people of all ages, genders, ethnicities and sexual orientations.

As an adult who has struggled with an eating disorder, I have experienced the challenges of finding support within the community. With the added responsibilities of juggling a job, family and finances, adults don’t always have the ability to travel out of state for months at a time to seek treatment. The Emilee Connection is not a replacement for professional therapy or for treatment facilities and those seeking treatment should discuss with medical professionals as to what level of care is recommended, but it can serve as an additional source of support for both those adults battling an eating disorder and their loved ones.

The Emilee Connection brings a sense of understanding and compassion to those struggling with peer-led support groups and speakers who have their own experience battling the disease. Nobody understands an eating disorder better than someone who has gone through the experience themselves, which is why The Emilee Connection believes in the value of having those in recovery as part of their board. Parents, partners, siblings and friends, can receive valuable education as well by attending support groups designed to explore ways in which they can offer help to those struggling.

Full recovery from an eating disorder is possible when we’re all in the fight together, and The Emilee Connection aims to be that pivotal resource that helps people move forward.
